The 9th Annual European Cyber Security Conference 2022

The 9th Annual European Cyber Security Conference 2022

The 9th Annual European Cyber Security Conference was held in a hybrid format on the 25th of March 2022, organised by Forum Europe, together with the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO). EfVET, as a REWIRE project partner and leader of the WP7 Dissemination & Exploitation of Results, attended online and with great interest this event, where hundreds of people participated. Overall, the conference analysed what response does Europe have to cyber security issues and which next steps should be taken to create a safe and secure environment.

The Conference started with the presentations of two keynote speakers: Margaritis Schinas, European Commission Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, and Juhan Lepassar, Executive Director at ENISA. They both referred to the European landscape of cyber security, and what is Europe’s approach for a secure and resilient digital economy.

Afterwards, two different sessions were held. The first one was a discussion regarding “a modernised framework to secure the digital and interconnected European economy” and, the second one was about “a resilient, complex and dynamic digital ecosystem: 5G Security and the Internet of Secure Things”.

After the lunch break, the afternoon session began with a high level discussion with Luigi Rebuffi, Secretary General and Founder of ECSO and Darren Shou, Head of Technology at NortonLifeLock, in which they talked about cyber security and future technologies.

Two more sessions occurred before the end of the Conference. One of them was about “an intelligence-led approach to cyber security: Setting up an EU-wide network of AI-enabled Security Operation Centres”, and the last one focused on “Enhancing European and international cooperation to respond to cyber threats and promote a global stable and open cyberspace”.

The current situation in Ukraine was presented during the interventions of the different speakers and panellists, not only due to the importance of war in many political and economic aspects, but also due to its direct relation with cyber threats. In general, terms like cooperation, interconnection, investment, and preparedness were used multiple times throughout the course of the Conference.
